Don’t be surprised if you pass the Queen while in these parts. She is the queen of the isle (peninsula) located in French Meadow. One of her favorite things to do is to sit on the benches on her small isle, and watch the ducks and other water foul in the meadow. She is strolling around the forest, making her presence known right now. While you are here, please enjoy the forest and take care of it too. Pack in, pack out. Please help keep the forest clean of trash.
Watch for clues to find the king and their castle, in the Beaver Brook Forest.

Directions:

To the Beaver Brook Assoc., Proctor Hill Rd. (Rt. 130), Hollis.

*Please bring bug spray.*
*See-ums and No-See-ums can be thick when in the season.*

Go to the Beaver Brook Assoc. web site to view their trail map of this area, and other areas. The wildlife, trees and plants are beautiful around these trails. Please help keep it that way.

From the intersection in downtown Hollis where the traffic lights are, follow Rt. 130 west (Proctor Hill Rd.), for approx. 2.2 mi. The trail head parking will be on the left side of the road. You will see a chain going across the trail entrance, covered by a piece of white pipe with orange spray painted on it. The dirt parking area loops around a telephone pole.

Clues:

The trail begins with you following Jeff Smith Trail. Eventually you will come to the intersection. Turn right and follow “J Smith” trail to the right.

A short ways down the trail you will come to a “Y” intersection. Follow the “French Meadow Loop” which goes to the right.

At the next intersection, turn right onto “French Meadow Overlook”. Follow the next sign to the “Overlook” as the trail curves to the left.

Still following the trail, it will come to a low point near the marsh. After that, the trail will start to go up a small knoll to an isle/ peninsula.

At the top of the knoll there will be a log bench. Look to your left and you will see a second log bench.

Sit at the first log bench so that you are facing the second log bench. Stand up and walk 9 steps towards the second bench and STOP. Look to your right. You will see a medium size pine tree with a smaller pine tree directly behind it. “Queen of the Isle” will be at the back of these two trees, at the base, nestled between rocks and under a stick.

When re-hiding, take care in securing so that it will not be seen from the trail and will not fall down the hill.
