Reed Memorial Library, 1733 Route 6, Carmel NY (845-225-2439)
Known for its unique Tudor Revival architecture, the library was erected at the intersection of Routes 6 and 52 in the Hamlet of Carmel in 1913. The library is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 – 5, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 – 8 and Saturday from 10 – 3.

Clues:
Take a few minutes to quietly explore the library, and note the number of fireplaces (F), the number of public computers at the hexagonal desk in the rotunda plus the computer at the circulation desk (C), large gold-framed paintings of people (P), number of days in February during a leap year (R), and the date on the cornerstone of the building (D).
Now sharpen your pencils, and:
D – [(( P x R ) + ( F x C )) x 10 ] + 3 Quarters less a penny.
Walking between two columns will lead you to the right path to celebrate your (not so) small victory!
If you find yourself in difficulty, you may ask for a hint at the front desk.

Good Luck!

For any of you intrepid hunters looking for a less math-intensive clue, or one more Kid Friendly, you may want to try this version (it gets you to the same box!):

Clues : Using the numbers you find on the cornerstone of the building fill in the blanks. a. ___ b.___c.___.
a) Place the last number you see in the date in this spot.
b) The second number which rhymes with fine goes here.
c) Add six to the first number on the cornerstone and the sum goes in the last spot.

You now have the call number for a place in the collection. Walking between two columns will lead you on the right path to celebrate your (not so) small victory!

As always in a library, be aware of the other patrons, and be as quiet as possible. I have included an inkpad – please be sure to wipe your fingers after stamping in to avoid getting ink on the tables and books. When you are ready to leave, please double check that you have reshelved the book in the correct spot so that the next letterboxer can find it. Thank you!
