These letterboxes depict the various mascots or symbols which represent the schools of the conference. These pouches and jars will be located at 2 parks (including Turkey Mountain in SW Tulsa and Rogers Conservation Education Reserve in Claremore, ROGERS COUNTY) in the Tulsa area and will be placed May 14th thru May 16th.
Difficulty: Moderate effort and some elevation changes Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, compass, pen and an old rag to wipe off the box/your hands. NOTE; When done stamping in to each pouch/box, please place the log book in a baggie and seal it well and then place that baggie and the stamp in the other baggie and seal it well. Hopefully this will prevent the log from getting wet and ruining the stamping fun for future boxers. The two schools left out (Texas Tech and Texas A & M) will be placed on my return trip in the fall/winter. And please be advised that all of these boxes are placed in wooded areas that harbor insects, animals, wet areas and the normal hazards found in the woods. Please wear appropriate clothing, carry water and wear insect repellant as necessary.
This first grouping of 6 boxes is located at the Turkey Mountain multi use trail area.
Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness is just north of 71st Street South and just west of the Arkansas river bridge on 71st. St., on Elwood. Turn North on Elwood and find the parking lot ahead 1/2 mile on the right. The trail head is at the northern end of the parking lot.

BOX 1: (Box may be missing as of 3/10/11) Go up the rock walkway and head straight ahead to the dirt trail and go to the Y. At the Y go left on the blue trail 71 steps to the path less traveled and take it to the left 17 steps and stop. To the right you will see a large tree with a large vine growing up it and at this trees base is a hole. Look around to assure you are unobserved and then, In the hole, from under limbs, retrieve the COLORADO BUFFALO letterbox. Return to the trail less traveled to do your stamping and then replace the pouch/jar as you found it please.

BOX 2: Go back to the Blue trail and continue as you were 78 steps to a path less traveled heading off to the right. Take it 8 steps to another large tree on the right with a large vine growing up it. The SOONER SCHOONER letterbox is behind this tree under bark and debris.
do your retrieving, stamping and replacing unobserved and then go back to the blue trail.

BOX 3: Return to the main/blue trail and head as you were, 55 steps to a grouping of trees on the left of the trail. Find the largest tree in the group and it has a vine wrapped around it about 10-12 feet up. The RICE OWLS are behind this tree under stuff. Make sure you are unobserved while doing the retrieving, stamping and replacing please and return the box to its hiding spot as you found it please. NOTE: Did anyone besides Gryzzled Gryphon catch my screw up in putting a non Big 12 Conference school in here. Well, they called and ask me to give them a taste of the big time so I did. Now lets see how many irate e mails I get with that comment. I made a big snafoo but am leavin it due to the nice stamp. I otta change the name to Big 12 plus 1 but am not goin to do that either. S.M.

BOX 4: Continue north on the blue trail and shortly you will come to a Y of the blue trail. Take the trail to the right. After the clearing you will re enter the woods and you will see a blue blazed tree. About 37 steps ahead you will intersect the yellow trail. At the intersection go right 30 steps and you will be near a large tree, on the left side near the trail, that forks about 9-10 feet above ground, Look right and see a pair of large trees, one with a vine growing up. The COWBOYS letterpouch is behind the tree with the vine, under limbs. Please use the same caution retrieving and replacing this box.

BOX 5: Back to the forked tree on yellow trail and continue S.E. another 80 steps to a sharp right turn with an old concrete foundation of sorts on the left. The NEBRASKA HUSKER is behind the tree which is behind (090*) the foundation 5 steps. This tree has a deformed lower limb.
You are very close to the trail so look up and down it for no one before retrieving or replacing the stamp and you can sit on the foundation to do your work. If someone comes up during the stamping just act like you belong here.

BOX 6: Proceed on the yellow trail to another significant Y and take it. (You could see a large power pole ahead if you had stayed on the yellow trail). On this less travel path you will go 17 steps and encounter another y and you will go right 19 steps and stop. Ahead you will see a large boulder just to the right of the path. To your direct right about 4 steps is a smaller boulder and behind it about 4 steps is another boulder with a tree right behind it. Go to that last boulder and find the JAYHAWKS between the boulder and the tree under sticks and leaves.

This completes your hunt for this series in this location but there are other boxes in this same area not far away so you can hunt them or return to your car. To avoid backtracking your whole hike you can return to the yellow trail and head left toward the power poles staying right of the poles on the trail and follow the trail on back to your car, not far away.
I hope you enjoyed your hunt and will let me know the results and the condition of the boxes. You can reach me by contacting the placer at the top of these clues or as you log your finds. Have a good day and keep on boxin and placing.....so I have boxes to hunt when I visit my sister Okie Dog, here in good ole Tulsa USA. Cordially,
