Mr. Woodsmoke of New Salem Lions
The Lions Clubs of Indiana have a camp near Clarksburg, Indiana called Woodsmoke. It is private property and although many letterboxes have been hidden and found their, it is private property and there is no public access or permanent letterboxes.
The New Salem Lions Club (between Rushville and Brookville) is the local custodian for the camp and therefore a perfect resting place for our dear friend Mr. Woodsmoke. He can be found on US 52 on the west edge of New Salem where the local Lions have their building.
You will see a sign made out of local stone arching over a planter box near the road. Behind the base of the northern end, inside the arch, our little friend is hiding under some rocks. This can be a busy place at times with meetings, receptions and an annual farm implement auction in late February. It’s even the polling place on Election Day. You should be able to park right next to the spot (except in February). This letterbox was used for a special activity, so please feel free to stamp any where there’s space. Rehide carefully and be careful of the bushes, they are prickly.
