rhesus macaques LIve in norThern india, nepal, bhuTan, assam, bangLadEsh and northern pakistan.
its Body is olive brown, with orangE-red fur on the loins and rump, which distinguishes the rhesus from All other indian monkeys.
this monkey is highly aCtive and very lOud.
these animals are diurNal. they are geneRally shy in fOrested areas, but often bold in urban areas.
exhibiting a great deal of adaptability, these monkeys make their home on the edges of forests, in open areas, and in or near villages, towns, temples, railway stations and ruins.
the rhesus macaque is considered an "abundant speCies." relatively large rhesus populations still occur.
rural entertainers train them for village shows.
they enjoy being in water and are good swimmers.
in india, rhesus monKeys do significant damage to crops and gardens in many areas. because they are viewed as sacred animals by hindus, often little is done to stop them from stealing crops.
from the end of the trail, turn around and head back. pass the chain link fence. pass the monolith on the left. return to pika town, look to your left and stop at a cluster of vine maples at about six feet up. under two rocks.
