An unspecified number of years ago my in-laws with a group of their friends and children (including my wife) would go up to Mel McKay park to play tennis.

They would play under the HUGE flood lights illuminating the dark. The flood lights were on a timer and went off at 10 p.m. every night.

They would check their watches, "oh, 9:30, we still have half an hour." then a bit later, "9:45, we have 15 more minutes of play time."

Sooner or later the lights would go out, mid-serve and left everyone scrambling in the dark trying to locate their car keys, purses, kids and other belongings.

Many a tennis ball would go missing in the darkness.

These two stamps are to commemorate those good ole memories.

This box has a hand carved stamp, bring your own stamp pad. Black is recommended. Box #1 has no logbook -- just log into Box #2.

CLUES;

Mel McKay Park is located in the extreme south-west part of Rock Island between Ridgewood Road & 14th Street West on the 92 beltway.

Start your trek at the Ridgewood Road side of the park. Going this way will walk you right by the tennis courts with the huge flood lights that we remember with these boxes.

Take the paved walking trail that dissects the park. You will go down a hill and see a paved trail off to the left, follow this trail and when it splits take the high road.

Once you crest the top of the hill look for a white PVC pipe going underneath the trail, count off 45 steps. You will see a short (approximately 2 foot high) stump without bark on it to your right. Take the small path up the right side of this stump.

Circle around the trunk of the old fallen tree and about 5 foot off the ground in a "Y" you will find box #1.

Now for box #2. Walk back out to the paved trail and turn left, down the hill from hence you came. All the way to the bottom to where it meets up with the other trail.

From the meeting point of these two trails turn Right. From the meeting point of the trails take 70 steps down the trail.

At 70 steps you should see a cleared trail/path going up the hill to your right, you don't want to go up there (just a landmark). Instead at this point turn left, go into the woods and just as you enter the woods there is a dead log to your left.

Underneath the east end of the log is box #2. Log in and re-hide well.

Please BEWARE of poison Ivy.
