***8/6/07 - Box is fine, but a recent finder said they did not find this box by looking up, but by looking down. They told me, "We placed it back where we found it - attached to thebottom ring of the half-barrel planter as we didn't
want to assume that it belonged elsewhere." Guess it has been misplaced. Would the next finder please put the nest back up where it belongs?

CLUES: The flock of birds were heading back north, for it was spring. As they flew over Oregon, one little bird noticed the sound of some predatory birds. Out of sheer curiosity he decided to carefully check it out. As he neared the source of the noise, he could see that the birds he'd heard were caged, and therefore no danger to himself. After he peeked in and introduced himself to all the birds of prey, he realized he'd lost track of his flock - OH NO! But there were lots of other little birds his size flitting around, so he explored the area. When he saw the botanical gardens full of bird seed, chipmunks, and even a bug barn he thought that this may not be a bad place to live! After meeting new friends, he began to think about building himself a nest. Hmmm, where to put it? He spied a red trellis, one corner of which was under the eave of the museum. Perfect! A dry place! So atop that corner post, he settled in. Now he excitedly waits for visitors to visit his new home (but he hopes the visitors will be discreet)!

Also visit the Gabbing Victorians LB in the same park.

South of Bend is the Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory. As tourists from Aspen, CO, we thought this sounded interesting; and it was! This is my first "magnetic" micro/mini-box. I was attempting to place it somewhere magnetically, but couldn't find one single place to do it in the Nature Center - shucks! On highway 97, drive south from Bend and follow signs to the Nature Center. On the way, you'll pass a field of lava on the right that that looks like giant plops of mud - cool!

Park Information: In the spring, the nature center is open from 10-4 or 5. Solar viewing and observatory are only available on Saturdays. Admission rates for the interpretive nature trail, nature center, botanical garden, and seasonal solar viewing is just $2 for adults and $1 for children. However, summer admission rates begin at the end of May (and I don't know what those rates are). If you have any questions, you may contact the Nature Center at 541-593-4394 or at www.sunrivernaturecenter.org. The staff is excited that letterboxers will bring in more financial support, so let them know that you're there to letterbox!
