The "Campfire Bears" microbox is located in Martin Dies Jr. State Park, near Jasper, Texas. The park, though hit hard by the huricane 2 years ago, still is a great destination. Campfire Bears is dedicated to that wonderful camping treat "Brown Bears" - which are made by twisting biscuit dough around a wire (hanger), then slowly roasting it over the fire. Once the desired bear is aquired, it is removed from the wire and rolled in melted butter. Then the wet bear is but in a container that has sugar and cinnamon mixture and shook up. Now you have your completed bear. But what kind of bear is it. The ideal colored bear, is a "Brown Bear", but as Silver Eagle entertained our family on many camping trips, there are other bear you may or may not want. For example: Polar Bear - white, undercooked. Black Bear - Black, Way overcooked. Grizzly Bear - covered with dirt and ash from dropping off your wire. You get the picture.

Directions:
From Houston, take US Highway 59 north about 90 miles to Livingston. Then travel east on US Highway 190 for 65 miles to the Hen House Ridge Unit of the park on Park Road 48 to the right just after crossing Steinhagen Lake. Stop at the 1st trail on your right, parking along the road.

To the Minibox:
Walk the trail on right of the road (as you entered park). When you reach the 3rd bridge, back track to the wooden bench. From the back side of the bench, go between 2 large pine trees to a smaller tree. Microbox is hanging from the back side of this tree, about 6 feet up. (**** UPDATE - no longer hanging, but on ground behind this tree in plastic bag).
