Nestled in the Three Villages on Long Island's North Shore, Setauket is a place steeped in history. It was the home of a spy ring aiding the efforts of General George Washington, providing valuable intelligence about British military movements in the ports on the Long Island Sound. You can find out more about The Spy Ring by going to The Spy Ring website

This letterbox is located in Frank Melville Memorial Park. To get to the Park, take the Long Island Expressway to Nichols Road (Exit 62), headed North toward Stony Brook. Take Nichols Road to the end, making a right onto Route 25A. Take 25A for approximately 1.3 miles, making a left onto Main Street. Continue on Main Street for approximately 1/2 mile when you'll see the Park behind the Post Office on your right.

Once you arrive at the Park, take the right path which is adjacent to the Setauket Post Office. Take time to enjoy the beautiful historic post office building. Follow the path which will bear to the left, past the waterwheel building. Cross the bridge. On the side of the path opposite from the waterwheel building, directly at the end of the bridge, you see a large evergreen bush. Attached to the branches of the evergreen bush with a velcro strap, you'll find the box, which is small and black. No ink, so bring your own (blue and red are best). THIS IS A POPULAR LOCATION, SO PLEASE BE DISCREET AND CAREFULLY REPACK AND REHIDE THE BOX BY ATTACHING IT TO THE BRANCHES OF THE BUSH.

Enjoy the visit!

UPDATE 1/1/13 - WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS. REPLACED THE BOX TODAY WITH A NEW HANDCARVED STAMP. BRING YOUR OWN INK, RED AND BLUE ARE BEST.

Box gone again. Can't seem to keep this one active. Sorry.
