Mattaponi Trail Reported MIA 14 April 2002
York River State Park
James City County
Near Williamsburg, Virginia
In a windy Park on a day we honor Vets, the next letterboxer here...a stamp and hitchhiker gets. My buddies came along to help...Maria's nine and Vincent's six. A walk along the river's edge "uncovers" this box in a well with sticks.
The York River State Park, near Williamsburg, Virginia, is reached from Exit 231B off I-64.
From the Visitor's Center take the path to the Woodstock Pond Trail. At the trails sign post, turn left onto the Mattaponi Trail. Over the River and through the woods describes this section of York River State Park. Leaving the busy bike/exercise Woodstock Pond Trail, the Mattaponi Trail winds away from the shore and into the woods. Crossing a River creek on a wooden foot bridge, continue on the trail to a section of fence. From the north end of the fence you'll spy a triple tree overlooking the river. There you'll find the box at the bottom of the well.
Please be kind and hide the box well, covering it with leaves and sticks. Next trip down, I'll bring a big New Hampshire stone, but in the meantime, the sticks will have to do.
Have fun and be safe!
