Trails are not well marked- bring your compass!!

This Series is based on the book by: Jan Brett
The old Folktale of the Gingerbread Boy changed a little with great Illustrations that only Jan can do.

Box #1
Park in the parking lot and cross the bridge (play Pooh Sticks here if you want). If you don’t know about Pooh Sticks read or watch some A.E. Milne and you will!! Continue on the path with rocks until you come to a right side path with a marker to tell you about ShagBark Hickory Trees. Read this and go back to the main path. Cross over it and straight ahead you will see a small wooden bridge - you will not cross it but your first box is nearby. Check your Compass [130 SE] and look for a Shagbark Hickory on your right as you face the bridge. There is a smaller tree next to it that is leaning at 45 degrees. Under Leaf and Litter you will find box #1 - the beginning makings of your search and journey. Enjoy and please cover this box up well. Return to the main path and continue your hike away from the parking lot.

Box #2
Can you guess what the Image is??? Maybe you can taste it?!!!
Continue on the main path. You will cross several drainage pipe areas and follow bright greenish yellow tape on trees as you walk upwards. Soon you will cross a small creek on your left by a fallen tree. Check your compass here as the true path follows a reading of 160deg south.

Continue to follow the main path. Look for a 3-trunk tree on your left about 10 Paces off the main path. There are several long sticks leaning into one of the crooks. Circle around the backside to find Box #2 in the covered crook under leaf and litter. Stamp in your logbook but there is not a logbook in this box.

Box #3
What will be the next image? Did you like the last? Did he escape? Can you follow him?

Continue upward on the main path reading 160 south on your compass. You will come to a plateau area where the trail splits to the right and left. You want to take the left path, heading 90-degrees east. Ignore any paths that break off to the left. Go past a vernal pond area on your right.

Continue on until you have the choice of following a downward grade towards the Tennis courts or a path on your left. Take the left turn following a compass reading of 320-degrees Northwest. Go about 20 paces and on your right you will see a fallen tree. About 3 paces from the center of the trail at the base of the tree . . . . you will find what you seek. Is the Gingerbread Baby hiding here? Stamp in your logbook (no log book in this box).

If can’t find him, continue onward to Box #4. Hum… What will it be???

Box #4
Who am I? Where do I hide? Will I catch you?
Shortly after Box # 3 you will come to another Path choice – this time take the path on your right following a compass reading of 20-degrees North. Continue onward for 12 paces and again take path to the right not the steep slope to the Left. Near the path is a half-fallen (leaning) tree just before a stand of conifers. Look 340-degrees North off the trail for a 5-trunk tree. In the middle of the tree you will find me hiding in my _ _ _. Watch out that I don’t get you!!! Stamp in and remember – no logbook in this box either.

Box #5
Gingerbread Baby! Well, well, well, you have gotten away from several people that are trying to catch you . . . where will you hide? How will you not get caught?

Follow the trail along the top of the ridge until you join a trail marked with reddish/orange tape. Check your compass again. You should be headed 220-degrees south. This trail will lead downhill and eventually link up with the greenish yellow-tagged trail you came up on. If you get lost and wind up on a point with steep embankments all around you need to turn around and head 200-degrees south. Hold the steep bank on your right, go past an apple tree on your right and look for the Reddish/orange tape.

Cross the little creek again by the fallen tree. Continue back towards the parking lot. Before you cross the main bridge where you can play Pooh Sticks there is a grassy area with a picnic table (be stealthy here - there is a muggle house overlooking the area). You will find a memorial rock here. While reading the inscription in the plaque – if you look up you will see a large fallen tree behind it. Carefully go through the brush to the right end at the base and find box #5. There is a logbook here that you can stamp in (finally!). Your Ginger bread baby is home at last and so are you!! Hope you enjoyed your journey!
