This letterbox is located inside the beautiful Warner Library in Tarrytown, NY. **The box is only allowed inside the library by the kind permission and generosity of the Warner Library administration and staff. PLEASE respect the library! Be especially quiet and considerate! It wouldn't hurt to thank the staff too.** If you have trouble finding the box, DON'T ask the staff. Most of them don't know where it is, and they have no responsibility for it. The usual library hours are Mon & Thurs - 1-9, Tues & Wed 10-6, Fri & Sat 10-5 and Sun 1-5. These hours are reduced in summer, so check before going.

The Warner Library is located at 121 North Broadway (Route 9). Enter the library through the front entrance, not the side. Take a moment before entering to admire the beautiful architecture. The door is adorned by a late 19th century bronze Florentine sculptured panel, "The Coronation of Venice," a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Warner, patrons of the library. You can find more information about the door on a plaque on the left side of the doorway as you enter.

Once inside, check out the exhibits in the lobby. Straight ahead will be the circulation desk. Walk to the desk and make a sharp right and then left. You'll find yourself in the Fitzgerald Gallery, which features art by local artists. Go through the gallery area and look immediately to your right. There you'll find the Detmer Panel, a huge panel of carved oak with a coat of arms in the center. You can read more about it on the plaque to the left of the panel.

Turn around and go down the staircase directly behind you into the Children's Section. To your left will be a series of bookshelves ("stacks"). Count five rows from the bottom of the stairs. If you look up and see a creature with a fondness for bananas, you're in the right place. On the side of the stack closest to the windows, go to the second shelf from the end. Count five shelves up from the bottom. In the row of books that includes indexes of fairy tales and storytellers, you will find a brown book with the title "Bleak House" by Dickens. The book is the box!

Take the box to a nearby table to stamp in, and replace discretely. Please be gentle with the book-box!

I hope you enjoy your indoor letterbox hunt. The Warner Library is a great place with a wonderful staff. Don't forget to check out their monthly calendar of activities and events!
