THIS BOX IS RETIRED AS OF 4/19/08

Just off the business Hwy 17 & Oak Stump Road is a local high school with sports teams known as the Eagles. The campus sports a nifty agricultural program as well for students to try their hand at a green thumb. It is near the ag building that this treasure hunt begins and ends. As you’ll see, it honors both the students and athletes. For obvious reasons, this box is best hunted on a weekend, but with sports and grounds maintenance going on year round, someone will likely always be around. Summer is also a good time.

The ag center is at the north end of the campus and can be accessed off Oak Stump Road at Ranch Street. There is a stop light at this intersection. Pull into the school lot and continue driving west past the school bus parking. Enter through the gate, follow the road left and the ag center is on the immediate right.

The ‘starting position’ for the hunt is standing right in front of a tree next to the parking lot for the agricultural center. This tree is unique with the bark peeling off in several places. It’s impossible to miss, like no other around.

Here’s the riddle:
This box may be much different than ones you’ve ever seen,
The maker’s skills with wood are ingenious and quite keen.
Exactly mag N from the ‘start’ is the direction to look,
About 60 paces, depending on the size of the steps you took.
A house for the small, it looks cozy and right at home,
At the edge of a forest where nary a cat would roam.
Examine the house, different…yes, the “X” gives it away,
Lift the roof and let the inside see the light of day.
Don’t worry, the hole in the front is just for show,
The creatures who might live here, knock first, and then go.
In the heart of this mansion, you’ll find what you seek,
A stamp and the next step for the treasure hunting geek.

One last thing before I let you go,
The treasure map you’ll find is not just for show.
You’ll have to put it back so that others may find,
The rest of the treasure and the stamps of their kind.
The clue to find the map is on page one,
Of the book in the house, now go git r’dun.

Careful: Reports of poison ivy near the box.
