Difficulty: Easy, clues and terrain.
Time: 20 minutes. Distance ~ 200 yards round trip
Please bring your stamp, a stamp pad, compass, pen and an old rag/hand towel to wipe off the box/your hands or sit on.

The "Safari Man- On The Highway/ and Interstate" series depicts things one might see as they drive the highways of the U.S.. These are targeted mainly for rest stops but might pop up anywhere. This letterbox is titled UGH, YOU GUESSED IT. Happy traveling!

This letterbox is located at the rest stop about 4 miles south of Mineral Wells, which is just south of Parkersburg, at approximately the 166mm in the southbound lane. There is also a rest stop just across the highway and nearby crossovers before and after the rest stop to allow for access from both directions. The crossovers are unmarked gravel and also some marked with a funny looking U with a cross mark through the U. If these crossovers are not used the exits before and after the rest stop are at the 161 and 170 mm so you will lose some time and distance using them from the north bound lane. One could also stop at the rest stop on the north bound side and run across the highway if you so desire.

Clues. Upon entering the rest stop from the southbound lane go to the last auto/car parking spot past the main building and park in front of the tan storage building. Go around back of this storage building and face in an approximate ~ heading of 220* and head out past the picnic table across the grass to the far fence, which you can not see until you get nearer. As you approach this fence look for a medium size tree which is kind of in line with a tree on the other side of the fence with a yellow posted sign. The tree you seek is about 6 inches from your side of the fence and has a tree from the other side of the fence falling down upon it. Your quest is behind your tree, between it and the fence, under several small rotten logs. I would suggest you sit back in the grassy area on your hand towel and do the stamping. Its quite a ways back but you can also go back to the picnic table. When done with the stamping, please securely close the baggie and jar to keep the log books dry for future finders and rehide as found. I would also like a report on your results and the condition of the box when you get the time.... if you don't mind. I hope you enjoyed this respite from your weary traveling day and have a safe trip from here on. Cordially, Safari Man

7/9/12 recent comment by the finder of the box: Found Highway and Interstate Series WV I-77 166mm and it is alive and well. A suggestion
in regards to the clues: The fence is about 5-10 feet behind the weed/tree line and was
hard to see, even from 5-10 feet away (It was about 8:30 when we attempted). Also, it
took some crawling under limbs to get to the box. Maybe in the clues you could suggest
that the box in question is back into the wooded area approx 5-10 feet, and that it will
take some crawling under small limbs to get to it. We're brand new to letterboxing and
this was our first box, so thank you for the great adventure and we look forward to
finding your other boxes!
