~This box is dedicated to a special bond between a grandfather and his first grandchild.
Picture a man in his early 60's with five grown children. He is wondering when a grandchild will come along, and then the big day arrives. The child is a boy and is named after him and his father.
With great pride he is involved with this child.
He loved the outdoors and could not wait to show it to his first grandchild.
In your mind, get a picture of a grown man holding a small child's hand. They would walk down the hill and all around Stenger's Field together. Many times, as soon as the child would arrive for a visit, he would ask to go for a walk with "Papa Moon".
As the mother of this child, it would always make me so happy to watch the two walk off together. It has always amazed me the way that every other generation bonds.

To find this box that is dedicated to this special pair, find your way to Stenger's Farm Park on Clark Lane in Waterford, CT.

After parking, head North to a wooden barway and go around it. At the "T", go left, and continue towards the 'Lower Park Pond Trails". After passing a metal gate and going downhill you will come to a field and racetrack. Go to your left (the only direction that doesn't have an arrow at this time) to travel around the track in a clockwise direction. Continue straight on red at the four-way intersection.

When you are about halfway around, you can look to your left and know that is where Papa Moon and his grandson would walk into the field from.

Just beyond the Fishing Deck, you will need to turn left onto a wide path. Follow this and take a right onto the second blue trail. Take steps that will put you into your 60's and stop. You should see a large triangular, pyramidal rock to your left. Go to the stonewall behind it and you will find the Papa Moon letterbox on the opposite side of the wall.

After stamping in and re-hiding well, continue on blue the way that you were traveling. Very quickly you will see a small path on your left. Take it and it will bring you to the wide track that you walked in on. Go left and follow it uphill and back to your vehicle.

We hope you have enjoyed the walk.

P.S. Black ink would work well for this one.

P.P.S. Dogs are welcome here, but you must leash, curb and clean up or be fined.
