Since this is Valentine's Day I thought I would plant this quick series for my darling husband as his Valentine's Day gift. As Jiggs is our field name, I thought I should plant something that he loves more than anything in the world...
There is only one log book at the last stamp, the other three are very tiny, look carefully, and rehide well.
Go to Belleville and take Hwy 62 South. This is also known as North Front Street. Follow this street veering left to go over the double bump bridge. You are now on Front Street. Follow this South and go through the lights onto South Front Street. (noticing a theme here)...At the stop sign, go right and at the end of the road is Myers Pier. Park in the parking lot.
Proceed to the Waterfront Trail which is at the east side of the parking lot.
At stone building, find Al Kellener and he will light your way. After him, find six more of his friends on the edge of the trail.
You will see that a beaver has been here. To the left of the beaver's dinner, take 12 steps (done by an eight yr old) to a four finger tree. In the crotch of this tree, you will find the tool needed for Jiggs to reach his favorite thing.
Proceed down the trail. Stay on the main path and you will pass a black stone ala a choo choo. Shortly after that you will see a sign for native plants. The biggest native plant behind this sign has a small crook at its base as you walk towards it. Jiggs favorite thing will hide in here.
From Box #2 continue east along the paved trail. You will pass a large open area to your left (great for kite-flying in the warmer months), with the bay on your right. Soon you will come to the schizophrenia memorial. After reading the inscription, turn towards the bay. You will see a 5-trunked (poplar?) tree in line with the small island. This pleasant diversion for Jiggs is snuggled into the crotch of the tree on the bay side, with a nice granite covering. You can stamp in while siting on the Retirement Home bench nearby.
From Box #3 continue east on the trail. Shortly, you'll come to East Bayshore Park. Continue on, passing the Avon Ribbon of Remembrance on your left. Look for "Old Woody", and then light standard #17. Directly accross the path from the pole is a copse of trees. The black Lock n Lock box is snuggled under a large piece of asphalt and a smaller concrete chunk at the base of the third tree from the left. Best to attempt this box from the backside of the copse. Please be very discrete, as this is a heavily travelled path, especially in summer! There you will find the thing that Jiggs loves more than anything in the world... including us!
To return to your starting point, simply retrace your steps to the small park for those who have little boxers tagging along, and then back to your car.
