UNAVAILABLE DEC 1-5, 2007 as the park will be closed for deer hunting.

This letterbox series remembers Paula Egolf (aka Goose Chaser), a letterboxing pioneer in the Quad-Cities. In the year and a half before her death, Paula planted 18 boxes in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois. My first letter box "Pay It Forward," commemorates Paula's years of volunteerism in Girl Scouting. Paula continued to lead a troop and organize and direct an annual day camp long after her own daughter outgrew Girl Scouts She passed on a love of the outdoors and outdoor skills to hundreds of girls. Paula's willingness to teach canoeing, camping and outdoor skills to young women inspires me to pay it forward, too. The box is hidden at the Wapsi River Education Center near Dixon, Iowa where more than 100 Girl Scouts spent a special day with Paula in June 2006.

Once you've arrived at the Wapsi River Educational Center, park in Lot B which is close to several buildings. Find a little cabin, Kestral Cabin. From the cabin, take the trail to the right. Count 81 steps and look down the hill on your left. You'll see a little brown and tan building next to the frog pond. Now look the other way and take a compass reading of 150 degrees and site a medium-sized, healthy looking tree. Walk 20 steps towards the tree. It has a big open mouth on the SE side. Look inside under bark and discover Paula's camp name and whose birthday is on Feb. 4th.
