Hike: About ½ mile over mostly even ground
Time: Do-able within an hour, unless you’re hungry. There are three cafes neighboring the Visitor Center that have great eats.
Stamps: Four hand-carved stamps, designed with multiple ink colors in mind. They are each about 2” square and can be put in your logbook as one long line or stacked on top of each other.

HISTORY
The Presidio Trail is a 2 ½ mile walking tour of Downtown Tucson, highlighting many historic and artistic points of interest along the way. A turquoise-colored line of paint indicates the route and stops are well-marked with numbers painted on the sidewalks and bronze plaques that give details in English and Spanish. A very nice brochure and map can be obtained at the Tucson Visitor Center (open M-F 9-5 and Sa-Su 9-4).

TO THE TRAILHEAD
From I-10, take exit 258 (Congress/Broadway) and head east into Downtown. After a few short blocks, take a right on Church and then a left just before the overhead footbridge. Parking is always available in the large garage on this corner ($2 for the first hour, $1 each additional). Cross the footbridge to the colorful La Placita Village and make your way to the Visitor Center, just off the main plaza at ground level.

TO THE BOXES
Box #1 “Tu”: At stop #22 on the tour (the Tucson Museum of Art), find the tile mosaic at the NE corner of the entrance plaza. Put the alabaster hand at your back and spot a low pink wall on your left. Follow it until just after the service ramp starts to slope down. There is a lone angular rock in the landscaping on your left. The box is underneath.

Box #2 “cs”: At stop #23 (Old Town Artisans), walk to the northeast corner of this pinkish building and find an old wooden post next to a doorway. In front of the post is a cement block standing on end and the box is in its bottom hole, behind a flat rock.

Box #3 “on”: At stop #3 (Mormon Battalion Sculpture), leave the adobe circle and find a contemplation bench down a gravel path to the west. The box is directly between the gravestone and the nearest corner of a large historical site marker to the right. It’s under a round-ish rock on the grave side of the landscaping.

Box #4 “AZ”: At stop #7 (the Gazebo de Mesilla), find the purple wall on the north side of the plaza. Next to it are steps leading down to Broadway – actually 2 sets of 5 steps with a landing in between. From the middle of the far right side of the landing, reach into the shrub. The box containing the last stamp and the logbook is less than a foot deep under a smooth flat rock.
