LOONEY ISLAND - FOR THE COMPASS CHALLENGED LETTERBOXER
DON'T READ THIS IF YOU WANT A CHALLENGE IN HUNTING A LETTERBOX.
Tired of bearings and degrees? Don't understand these confusing things, or don't even have a compass? Does ‘North’ and ‘left’ get you all confused? Do you turn your maps upside down in the car so you are always going “up”? There is only one thing you need to know to find this box:
1. The location of Looney Island (hint: its on the water in a Tennessee County named after the first Secretary of War).
Directions guaranteed to result in satisfaction!
Go to park.
Park.
Admire Looney Island.
Look for nesting herons (spring and summer).
Cross foot bridge carefully.
Walk straight ahead, staying on grass, to triangular corner.
To your left are miscellaneous rocks and bushes.
Beneath a suspicious pile of rocks will be your box!
It’s almost a drive-by for Petes sake!
Know that 400 years ago this area was an Indian village.
Location can be crowded, use stealth as needed.
Ink pad provided, but always bring own in case of dryness.
Bring food to feed geese.
