Bugler, Mikey Joe, was only 14 years old, but he knew what to do with a bugle! He was mortally wounded in the siege, but his ghost still roams the fort where he was shot by a Confederate sniper across the river. Maybe you can find Mikey Joe and his trumpet hiding now where he fell that fateful Nov. 1863 day, 143+ years ago!
Drive to the parking lot by the shelter with two picnic tables and park.
Look south to see six levels ascending and descending.
Rise to see many beautiful old oaks who may have heard Mikey Joe blow his horn!
From 1863-64, take bearing of 194 degrees, and follow trail about 90 curvy steps to Knoxville Civil War Roundtable.
Take second bearing of 125 degrees, 18 steps, to the Back Door of Knoxville.
Continue on path and pass by the underground magazine.
Pass by the gate; path soon "T's"; go west.
Enjoy short path stroll in the shade and look for tree with many feet
On the south side of this tree may be found the ghost of Mikey Joe blowing his bugle.
Notes: ink pad provided or bring own
there is no reason for ever having to leave the trail / respect the
signage
re-hide the box as you found it
picnic tables nearby, but no restroom
