SMIDGEN BRIDGE
Update 1/1/13: The City has repaired the bridge at this park, and the letterbox has gone missing. So sorry!

This letterbox is within a City of Bloomington park with an alliterative name. From the parking lot you will see the trailhead for the nature trail. Ignore the side trail to the left a few paces from the trailhead. Before you are out of sight of the trailhead, the trail forks. Take the left fork and pass several sinkholes, or karsts, on either side of the trail. (These features were formed by rainwater leaching through the underlying limestone, creating carbolic acid which causes the limestone to be eaten away.) Continue walking along the main trail until you come to a T intersection. Turn right/west/slightly downhill. If you are there after a rain you may soon see a pool of water and a stream on your left coming from an underground source. Then pass a large tree on your left, fallen but not resting fully on the ground. It has been cut and several sections rest on either side of the trail. Then you will come to the only footbridge along the trail. Don’t blink or you’ll miss it! The letterbox is under the right (east) side. You may have to move a log or some leaves to get at it. Be cautious of snakes or other critters that may lurk under the bridge – use a stick to retrieve the box from its hiding place. You may wish to move away from the bridge to stamp up, and when you replace the box be sure that it cannot be seen through the gaps in the planks of the bridge.
