Amelia Jenks Bloomer was born in NY in 1818 and moved to IA in 1855. She became a well known suffragist, member of the temperance movement, and editor of the periodical "Lily". Amelia Bloomer was also the President of the Iowa Woman Suffrage Association from 1871-73.
There is one liberating idea for which Amelia Bloomer is still well known. She advocated the wearing of more comfortable, practical clothing; bloomers.
Start at Bloomer School, named after Amelia's husband Dexter, at South 7th and Willow Street. Beware of the One Way roads. The box you seek lies near Amelia's grave, in a cemetary in the Loess Hills, at the corner of Oakland and Lafayette Avenue. While in section A, stop to read Amelia's memorial. The box is in a large shrub to the East. Beside the bush, site along the crack in the gutter and reach inside.
