FANNY’S WALK
DESCHUTES RIVER TRAIL (short and easy)

South of Bend, OR off of Hwy 97, is the Lava Lands Visitor Center. Exit 151 will get you to the Lave lands Vistor Center. Take an immediate left before the gates and the pay station.

About 5 miles on a paved road you will be in the parking lot of Benham Falls Recreation Area.

Near the restrooms is a trail called Deschutes River Trail--Old Mill Site Barrier Tree Interpretive Loop trail.

Enter the trail on the right side of the loop
.
Do you want to stop for a picnic?
Were you around in 1950?
What is a Riparian?
Are you related?
Have you seen a deer?

Take a detour to the Old Mill Site on the right.

Back to the main trail will get you closer to the letterbox.

Another detour to the right and you might hear the train a blow’in.

Go to the main trail again and stay right.

Huge twin Ponderosa Pines and a trail marker will lead you to Deschutes River Trail. Continue on the trail going right.

You will walk through the cemetery of old trees from days past.

Stay to the left and start your short incline to the top.

At the top, is another trail marker (Benham East Trailhead).

Looking left, find three stumps by a small lava flow.

At the stump closest to the rocks, look at the flow and find the treasure about three feet away in a rock pocket.

YOU DID IT!!!
