The trailhead is on Highway 6 in the Tillamook State Forest. Please refer to a guide book for more detailed directions and hike infromation. I highly recommend William Sullivan's guides.
Head up, up, up to the top of the mountain. Perhaps you may find an excuse or three to take a break on the way up. If you are there at the right time of the year, please take time to enjoy the wildflowers, they were incredible while I was up there, much better than my box, I'm afraid.
At the top of the mountian, you'll find something of a letterbox meant for all hikers. Feel free to stamp in there. Once done with that take the trail towards Elk Mountain for a short bit. Go down to a clearing and turn around. About 18 steps back to the top, look for a stump on the left side of the trail. RKOT is hidden at the base of the downhill side of the stump.
