As of 5/20/07 this box is lost or has been removed during maintenance. The tree where this letterbox was placed has been roped-off and the box is gone. Still a great place to visit but no more letterbox.
This letterbox is located at the Crowley Museum & Nature Center (http://www.crowleymuseumnaturectr.org/).
Notes:
There is an admission fee of $5 per adult,$3 per child (5-12 years of age), and free for children under 5 (maximum of 3 per adult).
Bring your own ink pad.
Letterbox accessible during dry and rainy season.
Driving directions: From I-75/ Fruitville Road in Sarasota,
Take Exit 210 (Fruitville Road/SR 780) and travel East for 11 miles to the stop sign. Turn right onto Myakka Road and proceed 2.5 miles to the Crowley Museum and Nature Center. The entrance is on the left. (Note: Myakka Road doglegs several times, stay with the main, paved road until you see our sign.)
Start out from the parking lot and stop in to say 'hi' to the folks in the office, pay admission fee. From the office, look across the yard for where the boardwalk trail begins. Follow the bees and butterflies along the boardwalk trail to station #5. Continue 20 paces and turn right. Ahead you will see a very large tree with lots of branches. Circle the tree to the left. The letterbox is tucked away at the base of the tree and covered with palm branches.
