Location: A county park located east of Rib Lake. Take Highway 102 east to the intersection with Hwy C. Take C north to Wood Lake Drive. Take Wood Lake Drive east for approximately 4 miles until it ends at the park. Take the park road to the lake and park near the picnic area.
Time: ~30 minutes roundtrip
Terrain: Easy trail through woods.
Reflecting the rich German heritage found throughout the state, this dance was adopted as the newest state symbol, the official state dance, in 1993.
Franz and Frieda headed to the county park on a Sunday afternoon to meet their friends. A fun afternoon of picnicking and dancing had been planned. The tables were moved out to the grass so the shelter could be used for the band and a dance floor. The pair hopped and twirled for an hour, then decided to sneak off for a rest while the band took a break. Leaving the shelter, they crossed the small bridge and headed along the blue-blazed trail that soon paralleled the road. When they saw the yellow arrow, they followed it into the woods. They soon came to a stream crossing, which in 2006 was washed out. They therefore turned around and went back up the path for 20 steps. They turned left and walked between 2 saplings and a larger tree, taking about 12 steps off the trail. They settled down in a cozy spot between a trio of trees, waiting until they heard the music start up again.
