Puppy Paws

Puppy Paws is located in North Mecklenburg Park, 16131 Old Statesville Road Huntersville, NC

Directions: I77 North from Charlotte, exit 23. Right at the top of the exit ramp. At the 2nd traffic light take a left on Hwy 115 (Old Statesville Rd) Park is 1 ½ miles on the left.
Warning: The trail is rated as easy but the Puppy Paws letterbox is a 15 minute walk from the beginning of the trail and the Little Pup letterbox is another 20 minute hike from there.

Proceed to the first parking lot on the left after you entering the park. Park in the back of the parking lot. Proceed to the back entrance to Mountain Bike Trail adjacent to the baseball field. The trail is for bikers and pedestrians alike so please be respectful of others.
Cross 3 bridges. Continue on past one very long log across the trail before approaching a bike rider’s "Dip" in the trail. After the dip, you’ll notice that the bikers have wedged the trail on top of a 50-60 feet long (or 18-20 paces long) fallen tree. (updated 6/27 - the bikers finally managed to beat the log into the ground. It's now been replaced with a few timbers. Look to your right of the timbers to see the fall tree. Follow it's line of sight across the trail) The left side of the log which is the shortest end points the way to the Puppy Paws letterbox. The letterbox lies 6 paces directly off the end of the log behind another log.

Little Pup

The Little Pup letterbox is approximately another 20 min hike from the Puppy Paws letterbox. Cross one bridge. Pass a cement block and rock walkway, then one more bridge. Pass through an open area with powerlines overhead. A large creek will be to the right of the trail. Follow the trail until you reach the creek crossing with no bridge. Stop at the water’s edge, turn around and back-track the trail approximately 30 paces until you see the log that was divided by the trail. ½ of the log is in the creek and the other ½ is on the ground perpendicular to the trail. Look down the log that is on the opposite side of the trail from the creek until you see a Y in the log. The Little Pup letterbox is in the Y. Continue on to enjoy the trail or turn back. The trail is approximately 3.5 miles long from start to finish.
