A new box (with new stamp) was placed 8/10/13

Locate the Hixon Forest trail head, either the one located on top of the bluff (off of County FA near the National Weather Service Station) or the one at the bottom (off of Highway 16). Using the map at the trail head, hike to Lookout Point. Enjoy the view of La Crosse. Now find the sign that talks about prairie plants. Count the number of plants on the sign. Rotate 180 degrees and take "the number of plants" steps. The letter box is guarded by 5 protectors and their little brother. Be discreet and hide it well, as this is a popular hiking spot. You could easily combine this hike with the Birch Point letterbox at the same park. Watch out for Poison Ivy in this park. This hike takes about 30 minutes round trip (from the top trail head) and is of moderate terrain.
