The Kirtland’s Warbler is a beautiful, but endangered, wood warbler. Living only in certain parts of northern Michigan, Wisconsin and Ontario, and wintering in the Bahamas (smart bird!), these birds require large stands of young jack pines for habitat. There was once a movement to replaces Michigan’s state bird with the Kirtland warbler, but the robin won out, largely because most people, even Michiganders, will never see one of these rare birds.

Find the Kirtland’s Warbler monument. The information posted there will get you on your way!

Pass through the meadow, and stay your course. At the next decision point, stay your course again. At bottom of hill, to the right of the trail are five trunks braided together. Seek your shy little bird here.
