If you love submarines, technology, history or VETERANS, you will enjoy this location. You do NOT have to purchase tickets to find the boxes. It is minimal walking on simple terrain.
The self-guided tour gives you great information about our "Local Hero."
Please let us know what you think of this box. It is our first attempt at placing. Thanks!
Directions:
From I-95 take exit 7. It is the last exit in NH heading North just before the Piscataqua River Bridge, or the first exit in NH heading South down from Maine. Follow the signs for the Portsmouth Waterfront and Historic Sights or just spot the great brown signs that direct you to the U.S.S. Albacore Park. It will be on your right not more than 1/2 mile off of I-95. Park in the lot and follow the clues. Have fun!

Recent Update:
All 3 boxes checked and updated July 8,2010.

Make your way to the Memorial Garden. For your first acquisition, the porpoise points the way. Stand with your "stern" to his "bow." Follow his gaze toward 12:00. Just above the evergreen "fence," scope out the branches of the hardwood tree whose "V"ictorious trunk lies beyond your sight. The temporarily AWOL submarine lies beside the makeshift "dock" anchored beneath that "V"ictorious tree.

From the Garden, stroll to the bow of the submarine. With your stern to it's bow, locate the "powerful pole" very nearby which gazes off toward the Portsmouth Naval shipyard where the Albacore was born. Search around its circumference to retrieve your second piece. Beware this can be a "sticky situation!"

Now journey down the port side of the boat until you come to the memorial benches. As you stand as the professor addressing the students in their seats, lift your eyes to the two "red heads" (which until recently were three), standing in the back row. Beyond the stump of where the third "red head" used to stand, toward the sound of the stream, you will find a quadruplet sumac. The final piece you seek is waiting there.

Please be discrete as this is a very public place. Take time to learn about the Albacore while you are there. It is a very unique submarine.

IF YOU APPRECIATE YOUR FREEDOM, THANK A VETERAN EVERY TIME YOU CAN!
