Carney Park
Northborough

Directions:

The Carney Park and Walking Trails entrance is located across from the intersection of West Main St. and Davis Rd. Just east of the giant rooster.
Go up the gravel road at the sign for the park and park at the top.

Trail: This is about a 50 min, mostly very easy walk.

Clues:

Follow the signs for the Cold Harbor Trail. After a short time in the woods the trail will take you across a berm that is actually a flood-water retarding dam. At the end of the berm continue straight at the fork, up the hill and into the woods. Pass a fire ring on your left and go down the other side of the hill. Cross the field in front of you and enter another wood. The trail will curve left and go across another berm. At the end of that berm stay on the trail as it turns left into the woods. Once you pass the picket fence it is about a 5 min walk to the letterbox. As you walk you will pass some large rocks on the left with a large rock abutting the trail on the right. You’ll go by a 3 -trunked tree with a very mossy base. Its center trunk is dead. When you see a stone wall on your left that is about 25 steps off the trail and a large outcropping of rocks on your right that seem to have tumbled from the hill to the path , stop. Face the rock outcropping. Notice a rock that is coming out of the ground at a 45 degree angle about 25 steps up the hill. Go to that rock and face the rock behind it. At its left edge there is a cavity where a smaller rock has broken off. The letterbox is there, covered by leaves and bark. Please re-hide well!

Return to your car the way you came.
