There are two ways to go by car, if you tend to get carsick, take the second. Either one is a beautiful drive, though the first is a little more scenic. You will pass several wineries. If you want to make a day of it, stop at a few to taste, and try the olive oil at Pasolivo too.

If you are coming from the South, take the Vineyard exit from the 101 freeway in Templeton, turn left. Continue on Vineyard, crossing the 46. You will go approximately 9 miles on Vineyard after crossing the 46. Turn left at the “T”, which is Adelaida Rd. Continue another 2.5 miles. Just before you reach Chimney Rock Rd., you will see the old Adelaida Cemetery on your right. Park in front.

If you are coming from Paso Robles or further North, Exit the 101 at the 24th Street/ Hwy 46 E exit in Paso Robles. Head West (on 24th Street). Cross over Spring Street and continue on 24th, it will turn into Nacimiento Lake Rd. Continue until the Nacimiento turnoff (you’ll see the “chimney rock” on your left). Go straight, the road becomes Chimney Rock Road. You will go approximately 6 miles past the Nacimiento turnoff and turn left on Adelaida Rd. To your immediate left is the Old Adelaida Cemetery, park in front.

WARNING: Beware of Poison Oak, the cemetery is full of it!

Enter the cemetery through the iron gate (open from dusk til dawn).
Follow the “road” up, passing the small building on your left
Go left at the fork.
Pass Eleanor on your right.
Continue to the upper cemetery.
Once in the upper cemetery, look for the Burnett lamppost, find Wesley Burnett’s birth year nearby.
With your back to the back of the Burnett lamppost go the number of paces equal to the sum of each digit in Wesley’s birth year, straight ahead.
Turn 90 degrees to your right and look for a crumbling rock wall surrounding an old, unmarked grave.
You’ll find the Adelaida Letterbox under the middle stone on the south wall.
