This series is based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe. The stories we have pick our our favorites. We suggest reading them by candlelight to make them a bit more spooky. :)

We do suggest you read his tales but it's not required to find the boxes. Here is a link to read all of his work

http://bau2.uibk.ac.at/sg/poe/Work.html

These boxes are located at Alton Baker Park
Park your car near Mars and head to the path that follows the river.

YOU WILL NEED GLOVES TO RETRIEVE MOST OF THESE BOXES

Start by heading upstream

Box 1- The Pit and the Pendulum

Follow the paved path to the boat ramp. As you head down the ramp to the water look on the right side. There is a rock wall. At the very first rock look for the box. It is under the tall grass under a rock.

Box 2- The Raven

Return to the main path keep heading upstream. Soon you will see a no armed tree with ivy going up the trunk. Walk approximately 21 steps to a small trail on the left. Walk 43 steps down the trail to a tree leaning over the path that is pointing to a thicket of trees on the left. Search the north side of the thicket under lots of leaves and bark.

Box 3- the Black Cat

Back to the main path still heading upstream. The path will take you through a wooded area that will make you feel like you are in Wonderland. As the path curves to the right (if you hit the Autzen footbridge you went too far) there is a one sided tree (all the branches are on the east side only) marking a small dirt trail. Walk down the trail and soon you will come to a "Y" marked by a tree with some sort of decoration attached to it about 10 feet up on the right side (if you know what this is for please let us know, we couldn't figure it out). Make a left at the "Y" and follow the trail ignoring all the other decisions. You will see two trees that share the same roots. Make your way to the northeast side of the tree that curves downward. Under the curve under rocks and ivy is the Black Cat.

Box 4- the Cask of Amontillado

Back to the main path still upstream (notice a pattern yet?) Stay right at "Illioo" Soon you will come across three wooden pillars about 5 feet tall that are marking a small paved trail. Walk approximately 25 steps down the trail. On the left there is a "Y" tree with a hole at the base. Search the hole under leaves and rocks.

Box 5- The Tell-Tale Heart (Lani's Favorite)

Back to the main path. Continue until it meets up with a larger path. Look north across this new path and you will see a bench. "Walk on Jim" heading west on bark path. You will soon reach a clearing with many choices. Can you hear the heart beating? Take the small "uphill" trail to the right that is marked by a very tall pine tree. It's getting louder, louder LOUDER! Continue on this trail till you see a cedars tree with a heart carved into it (we didn't do it promise!). With your back to the heart take a bearing of 172 degrees follow your ears to the south side of that ivy covered tree.

Box 6- The Master Himself ** Just found out there is a geocache near by. **

Head back to the bark path. Follow it through the intersection. Take a left at the "T" and the bark will soon run parallel with a paved path. Continue on the paved path past Autzen Stadium, past the dog park and past the Eugene Community Gardens. But don't go too far. Once you have reached the west side of the ECG follow the fence line till you reach the first corner (which is near a gate). From the corner take a bearing of 172 degrees yet again. Walk approx 20 steps to a hollow stump. Under bark you will find the master himself Edgar Allan Poe.

If you go back to the paved path ..... it will take you right back to where you parked.

Hope you enjoyed the hunt and the scenery... we saw pheasants, squirrels, geese, ducks, ravens/crows, and much more.

Happy Hunting!
