Elder House Fireplace

In the 1930’s, J.S. and Cammie Elder, built a three bedroom, two-bath house second home on this site, south of the lake. The house was constructed of custom-split logs and native rock with an interior flooring of hand-pegged hardwood. Meals were served at a custom-made pine table flanked by pine benches to seat 20-25 at one time and at the table on the screened veranda. The house was the site of family gatherings and holiday celebrations and was often open to friends. Destroyed by fire in the 1960’s, only the fireplace chimney and outdoor barbeque remained at the site. These have been preserved as a focal point of the lake side pavilion.
Please take caution when leaving the path keeping the ground cover in place.

From I-20, take exit 589 to Kilgore. As you exit, begin mileage and go 1.9 miles on Highway 259 South. (NOT business 259) Follow the signs to 259 South. Synergy Park is on the left.

Take the first left to the parking lot. Park and head to the trail head. As you pass the Trail map, take the gravel path to the right. Follow the trail to the pavilion. Take the concrete path to the split rail bridge and follow gravel path over a second split rail bridge. The path will zig zag down a slope to a road. Cross the road and take the path to the left. Continue until you see a tree on the left with a big hole in it’s trunk close to the path. Eight steps behind this tree, is a large pine tree. The box is behind this tree, at it’s base. Please re-hide well. Don't forget to stamp in Kilgore Oil while in this park.
