The Sargent Town Forest is a series of short, interconnected, self guided nature trails located 1.5 miles south of the center of Pittsfield, NH on Rte. 107. You will see a parking area to the right if you are approaching the forest from the center of town. It is well marked with a sign that reads "Sargent Town Forest Nature Trail". At the trail head is a well marked mailbox where trail guides are located. Pick up a guide. The trails are superbly marked and the guide contains explanations of all marked points of interest. To find the letterbox, follow the well marked signs toward the Upper Loop trail, following the yellow blazes that mark the path. Soon this path will intersect with the Link Trail, which you follow over the brook until you are on the Upper Loop Trail. Continue this meandering trail past a log bench. Start looking for marker #15 which marks a stone wall of interest. Count off 10 paces on the trail past marker #15. Turn left and walk straight to the stone wall. There is a low spot in the stone wall where some rocks have fallen. You will also see an "X" formed by 2 fallen branches. In a hole in the stone wall look for the Pittsfield Forest Letterbox. Continue back on the trail, following the signs to the Brook walk trail, which is well worth the walk, or the Lower Loop trail. The whole trail can be walked in less than 1 hour easily.
