11/9/08: NaNoWriMo is here again, and so is the letterbox! Since I've planted it one week late, you'll have one extra week in December to find it.

Every November, thousands of people participate in NaNoWriMo-- National Novel Writing Month. This activity challenges would-be writers to set aside their doubts, inner editors and other obstacles to write a 50,000 word novel in one month. For more information, see www.nanowrimo.org.

Part of the joy of NaNoWriMo is meeting up with other people who've been crazy enough to take on this task. To find the NaNoWriMo letterbox, you'll need to find the restaurant where the Irvine NaNoWriMo kick-off party is always held. The group meets outside in the patio area. There is a gate that leads out of the patio area (instead of having to leave through the restaurant). When leaving through this gate, if you walk straight ahead, you'll run into a tree. So turn to your left, take 4 or 5 steps, then turn right again and head straight across the street. There you should run into a lamppost. Lift up the metal base from the ground and you'll find the box hidden under the southwest side.

There's just one catch to this box: it will only be available during the month of November. Hey, if thousands of people can write a novel in 30 days, you can find one little letterbox in that time, right?
