TThe Moonbow Letterbox is located at Cumberland Falls State Park near Corbin, Kentucky. This waterfall, sometimes called he Niagra of the South, is a beautiful place. The beach area below the falls was the site of several cookouts when I was in college nearby. If you happen to be around after dark during a full moon, however, you can witness a rare experience: the Moonbow. Wikipedia also calls it a lunar rainbow. It is an arc of light created by mist from the falls interacting with the bright light from a full moon.

First, enjoy the falls. When you are finished enjoying the amazing views, head back past the gift shop and continue toward the parking area. To find the Moonbow letterbox, take a short hike in the wooded area between the road and the parking lot. The entrance to the trail is visible to the left as you approach the parking area from the gift shop. After entering this short trail, you may step over a pipe before coming to a Y in the path. Go right, no need to go to the road. Another intersection? Don’t go left to the lodge, but instead begin counting 21 single-steps forward on the trail and you should arrive at a large boulder on your right. Face this large mossy rock, and on the left side at the base is your camo'd quest tucked into a crevice. Rehide well, as this area is well traveled in season. Bring your own pen and ink, no room for hitchhikers.
