Childrens Lake Letterbox

Boiling Springs PA was added to the Historical Places in 1981. Its a great town with a rich past. There is a lot of history to be found in Boiling Springs including being dated back to the Civil War and the Underground Railroad. Be sure to visit the ruins of the iron furnace, and to take time to enjoy the scenery around the lake and to feed the ducks.

Our family was mostly raised around the Boiling Springs area and have since moved down south to no other than Boiing Springs South Carolina. We visit the area often and when we began letterboxing in the summer of 2006 we just had to chose BS PA as the spot for our first letterbox.

We hope you find the directions easy, since our family has moved only two years ago we have already found our hometown to have changed a lot and some of the roads are no longer what we remember them to be.

Directions to letterbox area
From I-81 nort take the exit for York Rd.(exit 48) At light make a right onto York Rd., go to 1st light and make another right. Go to 1st stop sign and make a left onto Fordge Rd. Go about 6 miles into Boiling Springs till you come to a stop sign. You will see the lake to your left. Go straight and follow along side of lake. You'll go
though 1 stop sign then to a spot where you have to bare to the left and go over a little stone bridge. After you go over the bridge make an immediate left onto Bucher Hill Rd. (the lake will still be to your left) From this point you will have an Old mill to your right that has been remodeled into apartments, just after you pass this mill there is a stone parking lot.( do not pull into the parking lot for the mill)

Park there!

From I-81 south take exit 49, not sure what the name of the exit is. At bottom of ramp make a right. (think this rd is hwy 641) Then make 1st left, the Trindle Bar is on the corner. Sorry but I'm not sure of the name of this road either. You will then go about 1 mile till you get
to York Rd. Make a left onto York Rd. and go under bridge for I-81.

From this point you'll be following the same directions from above.

You can also goto www.mapquest.com and just enter in "Boiling Springs Lake, Pa. zip:17007 This will get you to the lake.

PLEASE BE SURE TO WEAR PROPER FOOTWEAR, TO RETRIVE THIS BOX YOU WILL BE

CLUE to find Letterbox
Park in the stone parking lot off Bucher Hill Road. There is a wood sign at the entrance that reads "South Middleton Recreation Area and Historical Iron Works".
Walk across Bucher Hill Road and start on the gravel path that follows the lake. You will notice on the right side of the path that there are benches for people to sit on. These benches are dedicated to members of the community. You will need to count these benches as you walk. You need to get to the 6th bench on your right. This bench is dedicated to John and Molly Garman. If you have reach the white gazebo you have gone too far. Walk into the grassy area behind this bench and you will see a bench sitting further back. This bench is dedicated to Paul and Ted Bucher. Go sit on this bench. While sitting on this bench look over your left shoulder and you will see a log that has fallen down a sort of rock like wall but was stopped by a tree. The letterbox is on the back side of this log covered by leaves.
