This box was planted as part of the National Plant a Mystery box day, October 7, 2006.

Terrain Difficulty: 2

Long wide path for most of the hike; elevation gain 500 ft; distance 6000 ft, some off-trail; ankle-deep standing water after rain. Dogs allowed. This is one of the cleanest nature preserves WE've ever seen.

WE walk about 1400 paces up the wide path from the trail head to the clearing. On the NE side of the clearing sit on a low boulder just big enough for your kid to take a nap.

Take the trail NE, 34 paces to a log fallen across the path. Climb over the log and walk another 26 paces up the path, now narrower (could be difficult to find unless there are footprints in the snow). If you pass a large head-high stump you have gone too far.

See large boulders on the (L); turn (L) off-trail at 330 degrees.

Go to the (R) side of a big big boulder at 5 paces, with a knee-high rock on the (R).

Go 5 more paces to a tree on (L) where you will see a tree fallen between two pieces of a split boulder further to the (L). There is a whale-sized boulder ahead.

Go due N 4 paces passing a smaller waist-high refrigerator-sized boulder on the (R).

Go 12 paces towards fallen trees ahead. See the cracked and broken boulder ahead, with a low stump a couple of paces to the East. The reward is hidden in this boulder, on the opposite side. It will be easier to scramble up atop this boulder (or use a broken ladder) than to try to get around through the brambles. The reward is hidden under some rocks and bark in a place where the cracked boulder has lost a piece of itself.
