Men of old used stars, landmarks, and nature to get from place to place. This letterbox was planted by 12 children using landmarks and modern means to navigate.

Across the street from shelter #8 at Shawnee Mission Park, is the Shawnee Mission Park access. Go to the Gary Haller trail and head 180 degrees on this path. Walk past the rusty lady in a hurry. (she's not getting anywhere...) Follow the trail to the crest of the hill. There is a very large, dead tree on the left that is missing most of its bark. From here, go 24 paces. Turn 70 degrees onto the rocky path and go aprox. 15 paces. Find the dead tree that has part of its trunk lying down. Step over another downed tree on left of rocky path. Walk at a bearing of 360 degrees alongside the dead tree trunk for 5 paces. Look inside the entrance to the hollow of the log and find the letterbox planted there. Be cautious and make sure the hollow is animal free. (it was when the box was planted.) Please let us know you found it and if it's still in good shape. This is the first letterbox planted by this group of children and we hope you enjoy finding it as much as they enjoyed hiding it.
