~1/27/08 After a few "attempted" reports, this box is believed to have gone missing again. There are no plans to replace it 8-(

This is not technically a "new" box, but rather a redo of a wonderful Jay Drew box. I have re-carved and re-placed this box with his blessing. It is as close as possible to the original image and location.

Dogs are allowed here, but ONLY on a leash and you must clean up after them. Please be considerate of this and do not spoil it for other pups 80)

You will need markers and lots of patience to get this image. It is a wonderful place that is FULL of people fishing, walking and just enjoying this special place. A little agility will go a long way towards retrieving this box. Do not attempt in icy, wet conditions.

The following is copied from Jay Drew's original clues with the changing of one word.

"A single, easy letterbox in a spectacular setting at the mouth of the Connecticut River overlooking the great Island Salt Marshes and Long Island Sound. Less than one half mile of level walking. Bring binoculars, your Peterson Guide to the birds (this was Roger Tory Peterson's adopted home: his ashes are scattered on Great Island and the Wildlife Preserve has been renamed in his honor) and wear warm clothes on windy days!

On I-95 in Lyme, CT, take exit 70 (and if southbound, follow the 156 signs past a shopping center and turn left to pass back under the freeway), and follow CT Rte 156 East 0.3 miles. Turn right onto Ferry Rd and follow it to the end, parking at the DEP Headquarters lot. Walk through the picnic area and past the gazebo to find the shore side boardwalk.

Follow this magnificent boardwalk out along the river and under the rail road bridge, watching the water, boats, birds, and bluefish. Walk all the way out to the end, where an elevated platfrom overlooks the estuary. On the lower level, look up in the girders overhead in the" northwest " corner to find the River Walk Letterbox."

PLEASE MAKE SURE TO TAKE NOTE OF HOW THIS BOX WAS PLACED SO THAT YOU CAN RETURN IT THE SAME WAY!!!!

Enjoy your walk and many thanks to Jay for all of the wonderful placements, terrific images and incredible hikes he has taken us on.
