Elizabeth Park, the oldest unit of the Wayne County Park System, is located on the Detroit River and is linked to the City of Trenton by bridges.
The Park occupies 162 acres and was formerly known as "Slocum's Island." The island was owned by and named for Giles Bryan Slocum (1808-1884). In 1919 the heirs of Elizabeth Slocum, a direct descendant of Major Truax offered the island to the Village of Trenton, but when the officials felt they could not financially maintain the property, it was donated to Wayne County. This 162-acre estate was offered to the County on the condition that it be accepted and maintained by the County as a public park to be known as Elizabeth Park in honor of their Mother, Elizabeth Slocum Nichols.

Driving Directions: Elizabeth Park is located a few blocks south of the intersection of West Rd. and West Jefferson, in Trenton, MI.
From I-75: Take I-75 to West Rd. (Exit 32). Drive east, toward Trenton. Turn Right onto West Jefferson. Proceed straight into the park entrance.

From I-275: Take I-275 to Sibley Rd. (Exit 34B). Drive east to Allen Rd (traffic signal), turn Right. Proceed to West Rd. and turn left (traffic signal). Turn Right onto West Jefferson. Proceed straight into the park entrance.

Clues:
When you enter the park you can only go right but stay in the righthand lane. Looking to your right, find the 2 big boulders "down below" park near them.
Go down to the boulders and stand on the small, partially buried rock.
Face W by SW at a heading of 250 and walk about 100 paces until you come to an opening where you see a bridge. Cross over the bridge and count the total number of steps on the bridge. Remember this number for a later clue.
At the end of the bridge there is a tree with a carved letter "Z" on it. Locate the "Z" and head south at a heading of 210.
Stay to the left side of the clearing as you walk along.
You are looking for the the Randy Dean S. memorial tree.
When you find the memorial tree, face N by NW at a heading of 340. Walk the total number of bridge steps.
You should see a tree surrounded by a lot of under growth The box is located in this under growth.

Please bring your own ink pad. This box does not contain one. CAUTION: AREA MAY BE WET AND MUDDY AFTER RAINING!

Box is MISSING due to recent grounds keeping in the park.
