Originally placed by Fanning5 and adopted on July 13, 2008 by frogrocknladybug.

***UPDATE***

We adopted this box after the original went missing and the owner could not be located. We've carved a new stamp and relocated it to a safer spot.

The letterbox is located in Edisto Memorial Gardens, 200 Riverside Dr SW, Orangeburg, SC (right off of US Hwy 301). Park in the main parking lot by the fountain. Enter the Gardens under the pergola by the Andrew C. Dibble sign. Follow the boardwalk to enter Horne Wetlands Park (by the waterwheel). The main boarwalk twists and turns through the wetlands along the Edisto River and has several short walkways branching off to viewing decks. As you follow the main walk, you will pass a covered picnic deck/area. Continue until you reach the gazebo. Walk into the gazebo, go to your right and walk to the edge of the deck. You will see a pair of large trees growing together. Look to the right and just a few steps behind those trees and you will see another large tree (at about 1:00). The letterbox is hidden in a large hollow on the back side of that tree.

FYI: A great time to visit is the last weekend of April for The South Carolina Festival of Roses. There is an arts & crafts show and sale, three stages with entertainment, kiddie rides, face painting, petting zoo and plenty of food.

Another wonderful time to come to Orangeburg is any time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Edisto Gardens host "Children's Garden Christmas" that features a drive thru and/or walk thru light show, Santa at the Gazebo and hot chocolate for sale.
