THIS BOX HAS BEEN UPDATED! LOOK FOR UPDATED PORTION OF CLUE IN CAPITAL LETTERS! ALIVE AND WELL AS OF 9/28/2007

Scott Township Park is a hidden treasure in northern Vanderburgh County, Evansville, IN; with wooded walking trails, a children’s playground, and a pond, you’ll find more than just the treasure of a letterbox while searching for the first letterbox BAWA has hidden!

Scott Township Park Pond is a 1.5-acre impoundment located in northern Vanderburgh County. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the lake in the 1930’s. The park has a picnic area, children’s play area, shelter house, and several nature trails. Much of the shoreline can fished easily from the bank and a handicap accessible fishing pier has been built. Access to the park and lake is available free of charge to the public. A valid Indiana fishing license is required to fish in the pond.

Take Hwy. 41 north to Boonville New-Harmony Road. Go East-right, on Boonville New-Harmony, which is the second stop sign you will come to at Browning Road. At this 4-way stop, turn left, going North again. You will go exactly one mile and need to turn right, going east again on Schlensker. You will go up and down several hills approximately 0.4 mile and at the top of a hill, you will see “Scott Township Park”, turn left into the park. Follow the lane as it turns to gravel and you will see a playground on your right. Park in the playground parking lot. At the Northeast corner of the playground, you will see the trail head for Sassafras trail. Follow this trail until it intersects with the Lake Trail. Turn right, follow lake trail until you come to the back side of the lake. Watch those low limbs. We are certain you will see deer at the end of this trail! Walk around the lake. You will come to a fishing pier. WALK OUT ONTO THE PIER AND LOOK AT THE BENCH ON YOUR RIGHT. GO TO THE CORNER OF THE BENCH AND LOOK UP IN THE RAFTERS. YOU SHOULD FIND YOUR "CATCH" TUCKED SNUGGLY UP IN THE RAFTERS. HAVE A SEAT ON THE BENCH, ENJOY THE VIEW AND STAMP YOUR FIND. IF YOU BROUGHT ALONG A FISHING POLE, YOU MAY WANT TO TAKE A TRY AND CATCHING THE REAL THING BUT AS LONG AS THE LETTERBOX REMAINS SNUG, YOU WILL NEVER LEAVE THIS LITTLE LAKE TALKING ABOUT THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY! WHILE YOUR AT THIS PARK, BE SURE AND LOOK FOR "ACT LIKE A KID". WE HOPE TO ADD MORE LETTERBOXES IN THIS PARK AS WELL, SO KEEP CHECKING BACK. Happy letterboxing!
