Difficulty: Easy
Distance: Approx. .1 mile
Safety Considerations: Not appropriate for small children due to the steep drop off along the stream (in places up to 30 feet).

I have had 2 letterboxes go missing in this rarely visited park but I think that I have learned my lesson. I re-carved and re-planted this box this morning in a different location in the park that I think will draw less unwanted attention.

Background:
Archaeologists in Italy have identified the oldest known frescoed burial chamber in Europe after being led to the site by a 'tomb raider'.
The robber, who is on trial for trafficking hundreds of illegally excavated antiquities, revealed the location of the tomb - a wheat field north of Rome - in the hope of gaining leniency from the courts, police said.

Experts believe the underground burial chamber, the Tomb of the Roaring Lions, dates from around 690 BC and belonged to a warrior prince from the nearby Etruscan town of Veio. Decorated with fierce lions and birds, it has been hailed as the earliest example of funerary decorations in the Western world.

Getting There:
You have to be heading north on 195 towards Spokane (you can do this by starting at the bottom of Hatch Hill or by doing a U turn from the North at the Hatch Hill turn off; however this is not recommended when traffic is busy... you might want to travel further south on 195 before turning around). Campion Park is the first turn out on the right after heading north from Hatch Hill. You can either park at the rocks or drop off into a small parking area.

To the Box:
Head a few feet southerly on the main trail/dirt road. Turn left (northernly) just past an 8 trunked locust tree down a trail. Walk ~75 steps (including down and up a small dip) until you come to a group of 3 Ponderosa Pines between the trail and the stream. The box is on the downhill side under pine duff at the base of the Southern most tree.

Recommended Colors:
Tan, brown and black. Save the black to outline the figure, tail and eyes. Sorry, I am a lazy carver sometimes!

Hike length: 0.1 miles
