Directions - Clues

From Route 93, take exit 20 and follow Routes 3 & 11 east toward the Tilton outlet center. The next traffic light after Wendy's is approximately 4 1/2 miles. Turn left at this light. Follow the signs to "Metal" Hill Resort--there will be a right turn at the sign that says "Metal" Hill Road and then a left at the Baptist Church. You will pass "Metal" Hill Farm on the right. Hope you get to see the "Oreo" cows and maybe some wild turkeys. Keep following this road until you see a sign that says "Metal" Hill Restaurant and Function Parking. Go to the upper level parking lot and park at the far end. Continue down the road by foot. The pavement will end but keep walking until you see a metal gate on the left. Go around the gate and follow the trail up. This is the butterfly haven. In August we found many flying around and the milkweek provides an excellent place for them to lay their eggs.

Up further you will see a small cemetery. Continue on up to the cemetery. In the top section there is a bench in the corner where you can rest. Look down into the farthest corner, in the third section. Amble down there and look for Abner Kimball's gravestone. Behind it is a stone wall. Look just on the other side and you will find the prize.

The land belongs to "Metal" Hill Resort. They have trails for the guests to walk on or snowshoe in the winter. Someone walking up to inspect the cemetery would not be unusual. Their restaurant is open to the public or you may want to take a tour of their timeshares.
