Location: Deer Neck Boat Launch, Auburn
Terrain: Easy, some areas can be muddy
Time: Approx 1 ½ hrs
Box #1
From the boat launch follow the main trail. You will walk past a small beach on left. At the end of the beach walk approx. 18 steps and stop. There should be a small trail on your right. Walk up and look for a large boulder. At the back of this rock is a trio of trees, head SW to another rock and look behind it for your prize.
Box #2
Back on the main trail, continue until you come to a 3-way intersection – go straight and count out 80 steps. There will be a trio of trees on your left – look inside and you will find box #2.
Box #3
Keep walking until this trail ends and you will have to either take a left or right – go left. You should see a bench – take a rest if you need to and enjoy the sight and sounds of the woods. At this intersection (facing the bench) you will want to take a right – this will put you on the yellow trail. Walk up a small hill and part way down the other side look for the twin pine trees (they are huge). Look around their base and be careful where you step!
Box #4
Continue down this trail until you see a large group of rocks on your left. Walk up the trail onto the rocks and keep going until you see a trio of pine trees – look in between them for box #4. (we think this one is missing)
Box #5
Keep walking out onto the rocks and head down towards the water. There is a nice view point to check out the lake. Once you are down by the water there will be a trail (single track) on your left. NOTE: This trail can get very muddy! Take this trail and it will lead you to Battery Point towards box #5.
At the end of this trail the area will open up to a large area for viewing the lake. Before you get into the clearing, look for twin birch trees near some square stones – here lies box #5.
Box #6
Once you are out in the clearing, take one of the main trails off to the left – there are two of them so don’t worry they both go to the same place. These two trails will merge – keep an eye out for a pine tree on the right with a red marker on it. Walk to this tree and stop. Count 60 steps – on your right should be a pine tree with a stripe down the middle (maybe it was struck by lightening?). Walk another 10 steps and stop – there will be a V-shaped set of trees with a small one growing in front. In their base is box #6.
Continue down this trail until you get back to the bench. Right after the bench you will want to take a right – this is the main trail that heads back to the parking lot.
We hope you enjoyed your hike!
