This letterbox is located in Rose City’s Houghton Creek Park, located on M-33 just north of the stoplight.

Area History
Rose City is located on M-33 in northern Ogemaw County. The county is named after the Indian title "chief" which in Chippewa is pronounced: "Ogema." The land was originally platted in 1840. The county was organized in 1875, when the first settlers arrived near Ogemaw Springs and set up a lumber mill.
Rose City began in 1875 when Allen S. Rose moved here from New York and built a general store. The town was originally named Churchill, until 1892 when the railroad came through and it was renamed Rose City. It was incorporated into a city in 1905. This city has survived over the years as a result of tourism and its location to so many lakes and streams in the scenic surrounding area, including Houghton Creek, which runs through town. Other prominent cities in Ogemaw County: Prescott and West Branch.

Clues: Begin at the Lion’s Den. Walk in the direction of 320 degrees toward City Hall. Follow the paved path with the current, taking a left at the boulder where the path forks. Look for the platform in the shade of a willow tree and beneath the northern railing, you’ll find your prize!

As always, be discreet and hide the box well – Thanks.

While you’re in town . . . check out the Magnetic Hill – as featured in Weird Michigan book:
Head East from the stoplight on 33 in Rose City, travel about 3 miles on Rose City Rd, turn left on Reasner Rd (heading North) and travel several miles crossing Heath Rd. Reasner Rd. ends at a curve at the top of the magnetic hill.
Instructions Place your car in neutral at the level spot at parallel to the forth telephone poll from the curve at the top of the hill, and your car will roll up the hill about 40 feet. WARNING. You are on a public road! Obey all traffic signs and rules. Where there are hills there are blind spots. Always bring someone to watch for other traffic. Never try the hill when the road is wet and slippery or during inclement winter weather conditions.
