This box was planted for me by a wonderful local boxer named Kat. She located the Hittle Bottom Homestead for this box which is located at a popular picnic and boat launch and was the turn-of-the-century home of a local mail carrier.

From Moab, go north a couple of miles to hwy. 128. This is the road right before you cross over the Colorado River. Turn right on hwy. 128 and travel about 22.5 miles to the Hittle Bottom recreation and historical site. This is also called the river road and there are several letterboxes planted along this stretch of road. The Hittle Bottom site is on the left side (river side) and there are signs. This is also a put-in for the daily river rafting stretch of river, so it can be a very busy spot summertime mornings.

Turn left at the Hittle Bottom signs. There is a parking area on the left after you turn in. Turn immediately into this area. (You can drive farther in after boxing and checkout the old homestead near the river.) There are BLM signs right here that tell the history of the area and it is also the trailhead for a 3 mile hike called the Amphitheater Loop. Start on this trail through the fence and walk towards the gravesite next to the highway. This pioneer gravesite is maintained by hwy. workers. In front of the cross, facing the river, turn left and walk around the next large bush about 8 steps to the large rock. Under this rock is your prize.

Should you find the box missing, in bad repair or if you just want to say hi please e-mail me at blackvelvetrav@yahoo.com. TLC for the box is in the hands of Kat and her wonderful family - Thanks again for all your help with my Moab boxes! Happy hunting!
