*May 2013 update: New logbook added.

Hike length: less than 1/2 mile

This letterbox celebrates New York State’s Lock 7 and the Erie Canal System.

Take Lock 7 Road off Rosendale Road and park in the very first parking lot (where the road crosses the bike path). Proceed west on the bike path. Almost immediately you'll be walking alongside a split rail fence. Count ten posts and directly across on your left you will see a trail which is marked with a white hexagon. Follow the steep trail up through the woods and come to a clearing with unsightly power lines. Trees were recently cut down which make it more unsightly! Just as you're reentering the woods you'll see a huge 3-sister maple triple tree on your left where the box awaits you. Please cover with leaves and twigs after you have stamped in.

Can you hear the rush of the water from where you stand? Return to the bike path and continue west until you come to a path to Lock 7 on your right. I hope you’re lucky enough to see a boat go through the lock. Hope it’s a nice sunny day for you!
